Welcome to the EWS Arena Göppingen

Göppingens “Hohenstaufenhalle” has celebrated several unforgettable moments in its 40 year old history. Especially the successes of the handball club “FRISCH AUF! Göppingen” helped this handball temple to fame, glory and “feared” celebrity. Not only many dramatic handball, also popular TV-shows like “Verstehen Sie Spaß” or concerts by the german band “Toten Hosen” or the “Backstreet Boys” enlivened the event calender of the region over decades.

The city of Göppingen decided to modernize and expand the “Hohenstaufenhalle” in 2007. In an exemplary act of solidarity, friends and seasonal ticket holders of “FRISCH AUF! Göppingen”, sponsors from the regional economy, the state of Baden-Württemberg and the county of Göppingen supported this ambitious project with several million euros.

On the 24^th of July the EWS Arena celebrated its opening and the result is pretty impressive: Expanded to the east and west, completely renovated and endued with modern equipment, the architects still managed to preserve the distinctive charm of the “Hohenstaufenhalle”.

In the eastern part of the arena an extra-wide staircase invites visitors to the “Stadtbühne”, a generous outdoor stage. The classy black lobby offers many possibilities of use and the seven skyboxes, which are positioned over the standing room like hanging gardens, are decorated with great love to detail. The new school- and club gymnasium is connected to the western wing of the hall. The dividable multipurpose gym can be used for sporting events as well as many different event formats: as a separate lounge for guests of honor, as a backstage area for concerts or as a function area for receptions, conferences, lectures or public viewing.
